Pennsylvania, rural means hunting, fishing, hiking, four-wheeling, kayaking, living, and dining. Frosty Jacks is located off the beaten path, up the hill on Newton Road, Pittsfield, PA. This quiet, secluded spot offers lunch, dinner, 20 flavors of ice cream, desserts, candy, fudge, specialty coffees, and many sweet treats. Rural is nothing new to diners. Peggy Sue’s was the original diner built in 1954 with nine counter stools and three booths. Located in the shadow of the Calico Mountains, it was built from railroad ties and mortar from Union Pacific Railroad of Barstow, California on Interstate 15 at the Ghost Town Road exit halfway between Southern California and Las Vegas. Quite a rural location. From there, diners started across the United States. Frosty Jacks was established in 2006 as an ice cream parlor and confectionery featuring fresh, homemade fudge in Youngsville, PA.John Sands left his grandson an inheritance, which sparked the new business. From the original establishment, a diner was established with a 1950s retro menu. Also, it featured an indoor miniature glow in the dark golf course. The business was relocated in 2010 to 922 Newton Road, Pittsfield, PA, off Route 27, near Grand Valley, PA. They continued the 1950s diner theme, ice cream, and moved the miniature golf outdoors. The miniature golf has closed. In 2020 a pandemic swept through the nation causing restaurants to close inside dining. Being a small diner, even with seating restrictions, we could have only four people in our diner. We made the choice to offer outside dining, delivery, and take-out only. We have decided to stay with this choice for the future.
We have changed our name to Frosty Jacks Alfresco Diner (meaning fresh air outside dining) and Sweet Shoppe. We now have our outside gazebos that seat 8 people and can be used in the winter (heated) or summer. In Fall, Winter, and Early Spring, due to the heating cost and demand we do require a reservation for our gazebos. You can book your reservation right on our website. We offer full dining in our gazebos & picnic tables. We have added a new serving window to make your wait time faster and more efficient for ice cream, checkout, and items to go. Frosty Jacks Diner was a “step back in time,” a good spot for reminiscing and enjoying old-time memorabilia, like their Coco-Cola collection. People were able to rock away to some “oldies” while ordering something off a true “Happy Days” menu. They enjoyed an old-fashioned root beer float or one of the famous homemade waffle cones at the ice cream bar. With the new changes, we will still be able to offer that “Retro Menu & feeling that has been so fun through the years. Our Menu items will be prepared daily and cooked to perfection. The staff will continue to always greet you with a friendly “welcome to our place” attitude. Our menu offers a wide variety of food options, including burgers, specialty fries, hot dogs, paninis, quesadillas, wraps, subs, salads, pizza, subs, wedgies, sandwiches, lots of sides, dinner baskets, desserts, sundaes, milkshakes, and 20 flavors of ice cream. Never leave without a box of homemade fudge, which is made on the premises, a bag of Wilbur chocolate, one of our flavored coffees sold in decaf and caffeinated by the bag, or some good old fashioned salt water taffy.
